AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said to them: 'I do not know you' 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 We have come to you for a genuine purpose and We are true in what we say. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 We communicated to him Our decree that the guilty ones would be destroyed by the morning. 66 And there came the people of the city rejoicing 67 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They replied: 'Have we not forbidden you (the people of) the worlds' 70 [Lout (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)." 71 By thy life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement, 72 and the Cry seized them at the sunrise, 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Surely in this are signs for those who examine. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 Indeed in this are signs for the believers. 77 Certainly the dwellers in the Thicket were evildoers, 78 So We punished them too. They are both situated by the highway, clearly visible. 79
