The 'Aad belied the sent ones. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
