The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them that they do not accept faith? 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
