Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
