In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
