The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) 1 arise, and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
