The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he beheld, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
