Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ THE CONCRETE REALITY. 1 What is the Reality? 2 And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality? 3 THE LIE gave [the tribes of] Thamud and 'Ad to [all tidings of] that sudden calamity! 4 So destroyed were the Thamud by a storm of thunder and lightning; 5 and the Ad were destroyed by a furiously raging wind-storm 6 that He subjected upon them for seven nights and eight days consecutively and you might have seen them struck down as if they were the stumps of palm trees that had fallen down. 7 Do you now see any trace of them? 8 Similarly, Pharaoh, and those before him, and the ruined villages, sinned 9 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity]. 10 Lo, when the waters rose, We bore you in the running ship 11 That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember. 12 With the first blast of sound from the trumpet, 13 And the earth and the mountains shall be borne and the twain shall be crushed with a single crash. 14 And so, that which must come to pass will on that day have come to pass; 15 And the heaven will split asunder – so on that day it will be unstable. 16 And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them. 17 The Day whereon ye shall be mustered nothing hidden by you shall be hidden. 18 So whoever is given his book in his right hand – he will say, “Take, read my account!” 19 “I was certain that I will confront my account.” 20 So he shall be in a pleasing life 21 In a lofty Garden – 22 Whereof the clusters are in easy reach. 23 Eat and drink at ease for that which you have sent on before you in days past! 24 And whoever is given his book in his left hand – he will say, “Alas, if only my account were not given to me!” 25 and had not known my account. 26 Oh, would that this [death of mine] had been the end of me! 27 “My wealth did not in the least benefit me.” 28 My power hath gone from me. 29 It will be said, “Seize him, and shackle him.” 30 Roast him in Hell, 31 And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits. 32 He would not believe in Allah, the Most Great; 33 Nor urged others to feed the poor. 34 Therefore he has not here today a true friend, 35 Nor any food save filth 36 Which none but the wrongdoers eat. 37
