The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And children present [with him] 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
