The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 And never did We destroy a town but it had a term made known. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
