The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
