Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said, “Do you see these – (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
