The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? 1 Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire. 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks: 9 for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 and their reward for being patient will be a Garden and silk [clothing]. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. 22
