۞ It is He Who has created you from a single person (Adam), and (then) He has created from him his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], in order that he might enjoy the pleasure of living with her. When he had sexual relation with her, she became pregnant and she carried it about lightly. Then when it became heavy, they both invoked Allah, their Lord (saying): "If You give us a Salih (good in every aspect) child, we shall indeed be among the grateful." 189 But when He gives them a good one, they set up with Him associates in what He has given them; but high is Allah above what they associate (with Him). 190 Attribute they as partners to Allah those who created naught, but are themselves created, 191 And who cannot succour them, nor can succour themselves. 192 If you call them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is the same whether you call them or you are silent. 193 Surely those whom you call on besides Allah are in a state of subjugation like yourselves; therefore call on them, then let them answer you if you are truthful. 194 Do they have feet by which they walk? Or do they have hands by which they strike? Or do they have eyes by which they see? Or do they have ears by which they hear? Say, [O Muhammad], "Call your 'partners' and then conspire against me and give me no respite. 195 Surely my guardian is Allah, Who revealed the Book, and He befriends the good. 196 And those whom ye call upon besides Him cannot succour you nor themselves they can succour. 197 If you call them to the right path, they will not hear you. You find them looking towards you, but they do not see you. 198 Cultivate tolerance, enjoin justice, and avoid the fools. 199 If an evil impulse from Satan provokes you, seek refuge with God; He is all hearing, and all knowing. 200 Verily those who fear God when an instigation from the Satan toucheth them, they call to mind, and lo! they are enlightened. 201 But their brethren (the evil ones) plunge them deeper into error, and never relax (their efforts). 202 And if you do not bring them a miracle [according to their (i.e. Quraish-pagans') proposal], they say: "Why have you not brought it?" Say: "I but follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This (the Quran) is nothing but evidences from your Lord, and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe." 203 When the Qur'an is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace: that ye may receive Mercy. 204 Remember thy Lord in thy soul, humbly and fearfully, not loud of voice, at morn and eventide. Be not thou among the heedless. 205 Verily those who are in the presence of your Lord are never too proud to worship and celebrate His praises, and bow in homage to Him'. ۩ 206
