The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
