The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
