The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 and taught to him 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
