The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
