۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 And We saved him and Lot [and brought them] to a land which We had blessed for all people, 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
