۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 They will say, "No! It was you who would not believe -- 29 we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 Do you want to see him?' " 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 Had I not the guidance of my Lord, I would certainly have been brought into torment". 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
