The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
