He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him you attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 May man be slain how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
