The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
