The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 the stars are made to fade away, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together; 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 For what sin she was slain, 9 When the ledgers are laid open, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 So by oath of those that revolve. (The planets.) 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 by the dawn sighing, 18 That this is indeed the word of an honoured Messenger, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 Your companion is not mad. 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Where to are you then heading? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 for whosoever of you would go straight, 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
