The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Roman Empire has been defeated- 2 In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 With the help of Allah; He helps whom He pleases; and He is the Mighty, the Merciful; 5 It is a promise of God; and God does not go back on His promise. Yet most men do not understand: 6 They only know the superficial realities of the worldly life and they are unaware of the life to come. 7 What, have they not considered within themselves? God created not the heavens and the earth, and what between them is, save with the truth and a stated term; yet most men disbelieve in the encounter with their Lord. 8 What, have they never journeyed in the land and seen what was the end of those before them? They were stronger in might than themselves, and they plowed the land and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it. And to them, their Messengers came with clear signs, and Allah did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. 9 Evil was the end of those evil-doers, for they gave the lie to Allah's Signs and scoffed at them. 10
