Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The sure calamity! 1 What is the Inevitable Calamity? 2 And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is? 3 The people of Thamud and Ad denied the Day of Judgment. 4 Now as for the Thamud - they were destroyed by a violent upheaval [of the earth]; 5 And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind, 6 Which He made to prevail against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you might have seen the people therein prostrate as if they were the trunks of hollow palms. 7 Do you see any vestige left of them now? 8 And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin. 9 And they disobeyed their Lord's apostle, so He laid hold of them with a grip increasing. 10 But We bore you away in the Ark, when the waters rose high, 11 so that We might make it a reminder for you and so that attentive ears might retain it. 12 Then, when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet, 13 And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,- 14 On that Day will come what is to come. 15 The sky will cleave asunder on that day and fall to pieces. 16 and the angels will stand on the sides, with eight of them bearing aloft the Throne of your Lord on that Day. 17 On that Day you will be brought to judgement and none of your secrets will remain hidden. 18 Then, he who is given his book in his right hand will say: 'Here, take and read my book! 19 Verily I was sure that I should be a meeter of my reckoning. 20 So he shall have an agreeable life 21 In a Garden on high, 22 With fruits hanging low within reach, 23 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past." 24 But as for him whose record shall be placed in his left hand, he will exclaim: "Oh, would that I had never been shown this my record, 25 And not known my account! 26 O would that it had made an end (of me): 27 My wealth has not availed me. 28 “All my power has vanished.” 29 (The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him, 30 then throw them into hell to be heated up therein. 31 “Then bind him inside a chain which is seventy arm-lengths.” 32 Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous, 33 nor were they concerned with feeding the destitute. 34 Therefor hath he no lover here this day, 35 Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds; 36 that none excepting the sinners eat.' 37
