Whatever misfortune befalls you is a consequence of your own deeds. But much of it He forgives. 30 You cannot thwart Him on the earth, and have no friend or helper apart from Him. 31 Among His signs are the ships sailing like mountains on the sea: 32 If He so wills, He can cause the winds to become still so that they will remain motionless on its surface. Surely there are many Signs in this for those who are wont to be steadfast and give thanks. 33 or He may cause them to founder because of people's misdeeds, He pardons many of them, 34 And for those who dispute regarding Our signs to realise; that they do not have a place to escape to. 35 Whatsoever you have been given is only this life's merchandise; but what is with God is better and more lasting for those who believe and place their trust in their Lord, 36 Those who avoid the greater crimes and shameful deeds, and, when they are angry even then forgive; 37 And those who answer the Call of their Lord [i.e. to believe that He is the only One Lord (Allah), and to worship none but Him Alone], and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and who (conduct) their affairs by mutual consultation, and who spend of what We have bestowed on them; 38 And those who, when tyranny strikes them, they defend themselves, 39 And the recompense of evil is punishment like it, but whoever forgives and amends, he shall have his reward from Allah; surely He does not love the unjust. 40 And indeed whosoever takes revenge after he has suffered wrong, for such there is no way (of blame) against them. 41 Blame lies on those who oppress, and terrorise the land unjustly. For them there is painful punishment. 42 Surely, he who bears patiently and forgives indeed that is true constancy. 43
