Al-Waaqe'ah 3 of 3
۞ No! I swear by the positions of the stars – 75 And verily that is a mighty oath, if ye but knew! 76 it is indeed a Glorious Koran, 77 In a Register well-protected; 78 which none but the pure may touch; 79 [It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. 80 How can you regard this discourse with disdain? 81 and your portion in it is simply that you denounce it as false? 82 Why, then, when the soul leaps up to the throat of the dying 83 And you at that time look on-- 84 And Our angels are nearer to him than you, but you do not see - 85 Then why is it not-- if you are not held under authority-- 86 Can you not bring him back? (Answer) if you are truthful 87 Then, if he is one of the honoured, 88 For him shall be comfort, and fragrance and a Garden of Delight. 89 And if he is one of the People on the Right, 90 Then upon you is the greetings of peace (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), from those on the right. 91 And if he be of the beliers, the erring, 92 The welcome will be boiling water 93 And burning in hell. 94 Indeed, this is the true certainty, 95 So exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 96

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
