a large group of the earlier people 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
