(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
