The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or orders piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
