And assuredly We created you, thereafter We fashioned you, and thereafter We said to the angels: prostrate yourselves before Adam; then they fell prostrate; not so Iblis: he was not of those who fell prostrate. 11 He said: What hindered thee that thou didst not fall prostrate when I bade thee? (Iblis) said: I am better than him. Thou createdst me of fire while him Thou didst create of mud. 12 So God said: "Descend. You have no right to be insolent here. Go, and away; you are one of the damned." 13 He said: "Give me respite till the day they are raised up." 14 [And God] replied: "Verily, thou shalt be among those who are granted a respite." 15 He said: "Because thou hast thrown me out of the way, lo! I will lie in wait for them on thy straight way: 16 I shall attack them from all directions and You will not find many of them giving You thanks". 17 [Allah] said, "Get out of Paradise, reproached and expelled. Whoever follows you among them - I will surely fill Hell with you, all together." 18 And "O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from wherever you will but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers." 19 But Satan tempted them so that he might reveal to them their nakedness which had been hidden from them. He said, "Your Lord has forbidden you to approach this tree lest you should become angels or become of the immortals," 20 Satan swore before them that he was giving them good advice. 21 So by deceit he brought about their fall: when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them: "Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy unto you?" 22 They said, 'Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if Thou dost not forgive us, and have mercy upon us, we shall surely be among the lost.' 23 Said He: "Down with you, [and be henceforth] enemies unto one another, having on earth your abode and livelihood for a while: 24 there shall you live" - He added - "and there shall you die, and thence shall you be brought forth [on Resurrection Day]! 25
