He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
