And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 "And forgive my paternal uncle - he is indeed astray." 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 "By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error." 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
