The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
