He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
