The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
