He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
