Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
True are the words of God the Almighty.
