The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
