The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
