Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.] 1 A revelation from Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. 2 a Book whose revelations are well expounded, an Arabic Quran for people who possess knowledge, 3 A bearer of glad tidings and a warner. Yet most of them turn aside, so that they hearken not. 4 They say, 'Our hearts are veiled from what thou callest us to, and in our ears is a heaviness, and between us and thee there is a veil; so act; we are acting!' 5 Say, O [Muhammad], "I am only a man like you to whom it has been revealed that your god is but one God; so take a straight course to Him and seek His forgiveness." And woe to those who associate others with Allah - 6 [and] those who do not spend in charity: for it is they, they who [thus] deny the truth of the life to come! 7 (As for) those who believe and do good, they shall surely have a reward never to be cut off. 8
