These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
