The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments do purify, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
