The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send unto all cities heralds 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He said: cast ye. Then when they cast down, they enchanted the eyes of the people, and terrified them and brought mighty magic to bear. 116 We put it into Moses's mind by inspiration: "Throw (now) thy rod": and behold! it swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake! 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
