Pharaoh said to the nobles around him: "Surely this man is a skilled magician 34 He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?" 35 They said: "Put him and his brother off awhile, and send summoners to the cities to gather 36 Who shall bring unto thee every knowing wizard. 37 So the sorcerers were got together for the appointment of a day well-known, 38 and the people were told, "Will you also gather together, 39 (They said): Aye, so that we may follow the wizards if they are the winners. 40 Then when the magicians came, they said unto Fir'awn: will there surely be a big hire for us if we are the winners? 41 He replied, "You will then be my closest associates". 42 [And] Moses said unto them: "Throw whatever you are going to throw!" 43 Then they cast their cords and their staves, and said: by the might of Fir'awn, verily we! we shall be the winners. 44 Then Moses cast down his staff and it swallowed up their lying invention, 45 so the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 46 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 47 and the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Said Firaun, “You accepted faith in him before I permitted you! He is indeed your leader who taught you magic; so now you will come to know; I swear, I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides, and crucify all of you.” 49 They said: no harm! verily unto our Lord we are to return. 50 "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!" 51
