Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
