'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
