He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he feareth 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
