Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
